What? Me Worry?

Worrying changes nothing. Rather than spending energy on worrying, our time is more productive if we look to solutions for what worries us. I know, easier said than done.
When my husband and I started our business, I now look back and realize that we were really clueless that the odds of our succeeding in our business endeavor were slim. But, at that time, I was not focused on “would we succeed”, but what would be the worst that could happen, if it didn’t work out as expected.
My husband worried all of the time – about everything – and after years of his worrying, he got very angry with me that I didn’t worry. He thought I was not pulling my weight because I wasn’t worried. My natural response to him was – why would I want to waste my time and energy worrying – when he had it covered.
I don’t think in terms of “failure.” When my endeavors are not a “success” in the eyes of the world, in my eyes, things didn’t work out the way I hoped they would.
When we started Land Dimensions, we had two children under four, a new house, and no money in the bank. We cashed in our life insurance policy for $10,000 to see us through, and we had two clients.
If it didn’t work out – what would be the worst that could happen? Neither of us would be able to find work – me as a secretary, he as a design draftsman. I thought at the very least we would be able to keep a roof over our heads and put food on the table if I scrubbed toilets and he pumped gas.
The worst never happened. But if it had….we would have survived. God says -
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
